Preliminary Task: Evaluation.

In class we showed our preliminary task.
After it was shown we had some good feedback and hardly any negative comments.
This is what was said:
    • The camera work was steady, and it was well filmed.
    • The editing and sound were effective, and it flowed very well.
    • We used over the shoulder shots, and extreme close-ups effectively.
    • We stuck to the 180 degree rule.
    • Our shot reverse shot and match on action were effective.
    • Wide range of camera angles.
In my opinion we did a good job with our preliminary task, but i couldnt help think that we should have had more dialouge to make it more interesting.
Hannah and Jasmine did a very good job with the camera and camera shots and keeping it steady.
The use of editing with Imovie was effective and the way we stuck to the 180 degree rule was effective.
I think my group did very well, and incorpritated everything we learnt in the first term of our media class effectively.

Preliminary Task: Editing.

For our editing in our preliminary task we used Imovie
.
we used imovie because we did our editing at one of our houses, and we used an apple mac.
For the editing we put all the clips that we wanted together and fixed them to one another so that the clip ran smoothly.

we used a clip twice in editing, we cropped it and slowed the motion down so that it effectively create tension between the two characters. (and to also fill up more time)

We also used a transition edit near the end to create a time-lapse to show that time has passed by, also in addition to this we changed the colour to a dark dusky effect to show that time has passed.

Preliminary task: Camera Angles.

In my preliminary task we used a range of camera angles ranging from low angle shots to over the shoulder shots.
this is how we are going to have our camera angles/shots and how its going to plan out.

    • Close up shot of my hand opening the door.
    • low angle shot from the floor when i come through the door.
    • close up of door closing.
    • over the shoulder shot while i sit down at the table from Georges perspective.
    • medium shot of George closing book and folding arms
    • long shot of me and George putting hands on table
    • close up on my face of me saying 'so'
    • close up of George of him saying 'so'
    • High angle shot of us pulling faces/birds eye view shot.
    • close up of my eyes/face.
    • close up of George's eyes/face
    • extreme close up of my eyes
    • extreme close up of George's eyes
    • medium shot of George saying 'im just gonna go'
    • medium shot of George getting up from his chair and walking out the door
    • medium close up of me hitting my head on the table
    • and numerous close ups of me hitting my head on the table.
    • medium shot of my head on the table
    • zoom out to long shot of me and medium shot of George walking in and getting his book
    • extreme/close up of George grabbing the book and saying 'i forgot my book'
    • long shot of me still at the table.
As you can see we used many shot types as much as we can. we shot some other scenes from different angles and places, to see how they work out. but we choose the most effective ones and used them, except for the head banging on the table part, we used numerous shots and used all of them in our task for that extra laugh.

Preliminary task: What we did.

For the preliminary task we had to do a short clip that has to consist of little dialogue and a range of camera shots, for example; over the shoulder shot, low angle shot, high angle shot etc.

In my group we decided to have two people having a conversation at a table.
Before we could start filming we had allot of dilemmas, some of us were ill every-time we wanted to film.
so in result of this we had to our filming at the last minute on a weekend at someones house.

Our preliminary task will play out like this;-

    • I will walk through the door.
    • I will close the door.
    • I will sit down at the table.
    • George will look at me, close his book and fold his arms.
    • We both then put our hands on the table in sync.
    • I will then say 'So'.
    • George will then say 'So'.
    • We then pull 'awkward' faces while looking away from each-other.
    • We then will have a close up of my face with my eyes squinting.
    • And then we will have a close up of Georges face with his eyes blinking.
    • Then again we will have a close up of my eyes squinting.
    • And a close up of Georges eyes blinking.
    • We then will have George saying 'Im just gonna go' in a whispered tone while getting up from his chair.
    • George will then leave the room.
    • I will then have several shots of me hitting my head hard against the table.
    • We will then have a transition/ fade to black and then show me with my head still on the table.
    • George will then come back in, say 'i forgot my book' take his book, and then leave.
While filming we had made mistakes, so we had to film some things over because we either laughed, or did the wrong thing.
A few times we shot the same things over but in different angles and diffrent camera shots because we wanted to shoot from every possible angle to see what clip was more effective.
Overall it took my group around 1 and a half hours to film our preliminary task, (excluding editing which would've been about 20 minutes)

Action film analysis.
Underworld. (2003)

The film underworld awkaening is about avampire woman who leads a battle with lycans (warewolves)againt mankind.
Firstly we see that the genre is conveyed through Mise-en-scene. the surroundings and lighting are dark, gloomy and uncomfortable creating emphasis on the danger that is occurring. The place is Set in a tall concrete building with big rooftops and lots of windows.
Mise-en-scene is shown through the costumes and props, the main character is wearing a skin tight catsuit that seems to be flexible to her movement, this effectively shows that it is an action film by doing this because it indicated that she moves around alot.
The men that are after her are wearing protective gear, effectively showing that they will be in danger some-point in the movie, additionally these men have guns and warfare which immediately infers that this film's genre is action. The use of props is effectively showing what kind of genre this film is, For example; We see fake blood being used creating the effect of danger which is often used in action films to make it more thrilling and scary. In the background we see fire by using this prop it creates a sense of danger that most action films have.
Secondly, This is an action film with alot of cliche's in, the location is gloomy, the place is surrounded by guards and officers that carry guns and weaponry. The heroine is another cliche of action films, she is flexible, fast moving and seems to have combattraining seeing as she can backflip of buildings (well, she is a vampire, which means that she has special super powers, which is another cliché in most action-sci-fi films.)
The beggining shows a medium shot of the woman surrounded by lights and gunfire, she is shown from the waist up, showing that she is the main character that we should be focussing on.
